NTC CTO Eric Pohl to Discuss Workflow Details of NBC Olympics Highligts Factory at NAB

GLENDALE CA, March 27, 2008--NTC Chief Technology Officer Eric Pohl joins fellow industry experts in revealing the details of a ground-breaking initiative known as the NBC Olympics Highlights Factory, at the joint SVG (Sports Video Group)/NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Beijing Olympics Workshop, Wednesday April 16, in Las Vegas. The panel will detail the technologies and workflows of this project, designed to prepare more than 3,600 hours of video and audio content--more programming than all previous Olympic broadcasts combined--for distribution over multiple outlets. “Inside NBC‘s Highlights Factory” is one of several panel presentations comprising the Beijing Olympics Workshop, an official NAB educational conference and part of the 2008 NAB convention, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“NTC is proud to have been selected as a partner with NBC Olympics in building this first-of-its kind Highlights Factory," states Pohl, an NBC Olympics Project Manager. “Along with other partners in this project, we will explain to the workshop audience how the unique design of the NBC Olympics Highlights Factory will ensure that all of the action of Olympic competition will be distributed to fans and viewers around the world, whether they are watching HDTV, SDTV, the Internet, or one of the many other new digital content-display outlets.”

Moderated by SVG Editorial Director Ken Kerschbaumer, “Inside NBC‘s Highlights Factory” panelists will also include: Matt Adams, VP of Broadcast Solutions at Omneon; Peter Humphrey, Principal, Media Strategy Partners, LLC; and NBC Olympics Consultant Steve Kaufman.

“The overview of the NBC Olympics Highlight Factory by Eric Pohl, Matt Adams, Peter Humphrey, and Steve Kaufman will give attendees a chance to learn about one of the most impressive broadcast technology feats ever: ingesting thousands of hours of HD sports content and quickly repackaging it for distribution to viewers," says Kerschbaumer, SVG Editorial Director. "It's an honor to have these three industry experts take time out of their hectic schedules to share their Olympics experience.”

“With broadcast organizations around the world making technical preparations for this summer‘s Beijing Olympics, the task of providing coverage of this enormous event--in formats ranging from HDTV to streaming video--represents a remarkable undertaking,” adds NTC Managing Partner Chuck Phelan. “Industry interest is intense in the many advanced workflows and technologies being prepared to capture and deliver the games to an anticipated global audience of 4 billion. The NBC Olympics Highlights Factory is a leading-edge project, and NTC is proud to contribute its services and though-leadership to the success of this historic endeavor.”

SVG and NAB members can sign up to attend the conference at www.nabshow.com and receive a $100 discount if registered by April 11 ($395 for members; $495 for non-members) and a discount of $130 if registered after April 11 ($495 for members and $625 for non-members).
