Sinclair Deploys Triveni Digital GuideBuilder™ Across Station Group to Ensure Quality

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dec. 3, 2007 -- Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics (LGE), today announced that Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the United States‘ largest television broadcasting companies, is using the GuideBuilder™ PSIP (Program and System Information Protocol) generator in a redundant configuration across its station group. The group is now also beginning to integrate the company‘s StreamScope™ RM-40 systems into its television stations to ensure the quality of DTV streams for the station group.

“In moving to digital, we knew it was important to build and operate stations that we could depend on in the same way that we depended on our analog stations,” said Harvey Arnold, corporate director of engineering at Sinclair Broadcast Group. “The integration of Triveni Digital systems into our digital operations allows us to comply with the technical specifications of FCC regulations and gives us the advanced PSIP generation and testing and monitoring capabilities we need to make sure our signals are being appropriately distributed.”

By implementing redundant GuideBuilder throughout its station group, Sinclair is ensuring mission critical operational capabilities with FCC-mandated PSIP data. PSIP forms the foundation for ATSC digital television transport streams, as well as being important for digital cable carriage of over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts. GuideBuilder‘s intuitive interface for managing program event information and flexible architecture ensures Sinclair a smooth operational integration.

StreamScope is also now in the process of being integrated to monitor, measure, record, and analyze DTV streams, providing an unusual depth of information that allows station engineers to drill down to any problem. Because issues with the bit stream often don‘t manifest themselves in the picture and because different receivers handle the incoming stream differently, a problem not visually apparent to some viewers may cause picture degradation or even loss for others.

Sinclair engineers can rely on the StreamScope to indicate that each part of the stream is intact and will display properly, regardless of receiver type. In addition, the Business Intent Assurance™ interface between the StreamScope and GuideBuilder systems validates that streams are correct throughout the broadcast network.
