Inlet’s Spinnaker Selected to Stream Indy 500 Live

Inlet Technologies, the leader in advanced encoding solutions for new media, announced today that IMS Productions and the Indy Racing League, LLC used its SpinnakerTM encoding solution to stream their broadcast aid streaming application for the 2009 Indianapolis 500® on May 24th.

The live internet broadcast featured video feeds from a select number of in-car cameras and a helicopter camera. Viewers were also able to follow along with live car telemetry, LIVE Leaderboard and "compete" mode streaming, using IndyCar Race Control presented by iRacing.com. IndyCar race fans accessed the broadcast through IndyCar Nation, a free online community within IndyCar.com.

“Our goal is to provide our online viewers with a complementary product that enhances our television broadcast experience,” said Charlie Morgan, President, COO of IMS Productions. “Inlet is known for its industry expertise and proven technology, and has experience in production with several leading sports organizations. Working with Inlet, we intend to deliver the best online streaming experience possible for IndyCar® Series fans.”

Inlet’s Spinnaker family of live streaming appliances delivers stunning picture quality (in HD or SD), allowing content creators to offer viewers a “living room” experience over the Web. Spinnaker supports all of the major formats, including H.264, VC-1, Silverlight and Flash VP6, and allows content creators to stream multiple formats simultaneously from one source. Spinnaker is ideal for live sports, as it can create real-time highlights without the need for additional file preparation. Users can switch between multiple games or multiple camera angles during a single event. URLs or captions, such as scores and statistics, can also be inserted directly into the live stream. Spinnaker also offers calendar-based scheduling (ideal for recurring events), 24/7 reliability, and is designed to be used remotely, in fleets, or locally. Spinnaker also has built-in support for new, advanced streaming techniques, including Smooth Streaming from Microsoft and Dynamic Streaming from Adobe.

“We are excited to add the Indy Racing League to the growing list of sports-related organizations turning to Inlet and Spinnaker for high quality live streaming,” said Neal Page, Inlet CEO and founder. “We were happy to help them deliver an unprecedented online experience for the Indy 500 and look forward to working with them on future racing events.”
