Peruvian Group Picks Japanese-Brazilian DTV Standard

Peru's National Radio and Television Society has announced that it prefers the Japanese-Brazilian SBTDT terrestrial DTV standard, according to the Web site LivingInPeru.com.

Peru's National Radio and Television Society includes four private TV stations and 17 radio stations. The article said the Society did a detailed commercial and economic comparison of the competing standards and concluded that SBTDT would be the best choice.

As reported last week, Peru's Ministry of Transportation has the report from the multisectorial commission's tests of the ATSC, DVB-T, DTMB, and SBTDT standards but has yet to adopt a terrestrial DTV standard for Peru. Minister Enrique Cornejo said last week that the price to the consumer was one of the factors it would consider in adopting a standard.
