Kansas City's KSMO Goes Tapeless With Sundance

Sinclair Kansas City, Kan., station KSMO, is now a tapeless operation through its deployment of a Sundance Digital FastBreak Automation system.

The move is a shift from a legacy analog playback system to digital media management equipment. KSMO's system was integrated to work with a Grass Valley MC21 switcher, a Leitch server, Encoda's Columbine traffic and billing system and other master control equipment. FastBreak is also employing Sundance's Time-Liner, an expandable event sequencing system that assists in recording satellite feeds.

Professional Video Supply provided systems integration services with assistance from Sundance for configuration and installation. Sundance also provided customer software for use with Columbine. The station staff handled the wiring, and KSMO was the first commercial station in the city's market to test a digital signal.

Sinclair is currently using FastBreak at three other locations and plans to deploy more.
