Waterman Broadcasting has acquired JVC GY-HD250 ProHD cameras for use as primary studio cameras at WZVN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Fort Myers, FL.
This acquisition follows the group’s purchase of several JVC 100 Series cameras in December 2006.
According to group director of engineering and technology, Dan Billings, the new cameras are well suited to the station’s needs because of the camera’s native 720p format and HD-SDI digital output. Waterman Broadcasting also selected the cameras because they integrate well with the station’s existing Telemetric robotics system, which the station will use for control.
The WZVN-TV studio has three floor televators, which can pan and tilt and raise and lower, Billings said. CCU functions for the cameras are also done via the Telemetrics system. The station also has two GY-HD250s that it can lower from the ceiling using custom-built Telemetrics hardware.
Waterman Broadcasting uses its existing ProHD cameras in the field to capture footage in both HD and SD. Billings added that the cameras are frequently used on the water or during hurricanes because they are light, durable and perform well in extreme weather conditions.
Waterman Broadcasting owns WBBH-TV (NBC) and WZVN-TV (ABC) in Fort Myers, FL, and WVIR-TV (NBC) in Charlottesville, VA.
