Viewers contribute to ABC News, AOL News State of the Union coverage

News gathering for ABC News' coverage of President George W. Bush’s State of the Union speech Jan. 31 included a new element that extended the reach of its effort.

Working with AOL News, ABC rolled out “The People’s State of the Union,” an interactive approach to coverage of the event that featured video and text comments from viewers on their reaction to the address and the Democratic Response.

Select portions aired throughout ABC’s State of the Union coverage, on ABC News programs, ABC News Now, ABCNews.com and AOLNews.com.

ABC News anchors answered viewer questions with video responses that were posted on ABC News.com and AOLNews.com. Commentary from AOL users ran as a ticker on ABC News programming and ABC News Now.

The "People's State of the Union" kicked off ABC News Now's new line of viewer-generated programming, "Seen and Heard in America," which will continue to involve public participation.
