Thomson equips Latvian Mobile Telephone for mobile TV trial

Thomson is supplying Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT) with equipment for one of the Baltic region’s first mobile TV trials, based on the DVB-H standard.

LMT is using a complete video headend and the SmartVision service management platform from Thomson for the trial, which begin late last year and is expected to continue throughout this year. The Thomson headend includes ViBE Mobile TV encoders to compress the incoming video streams and Opal DVB-H encapsulators to encapsulate them into a single transport stream. Thomson’s Jade ESG generator is being used to create an electronic programming guide (EPG) for end users, while the SmartVision service management platform allows LMT to add new services and manage the interactivity through one portal.

LMT’s partner Latvia State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC) is providing the DVB-H transmission network for the trial, which features four live TV channels along with pay-per-view and interactive services.
