TANDBERG to provide turnkey system for Romanian DTH satellite service

TANDBERG Television has provided a turnkey video headend and TV delivery system to RCS, the new Romanian DTH satellite service that went on air at the end of last year. RCS has used TANDBERG’s video compression and DTH digital broadcasting system to launch 32 channels via the Intelsat space segment.

The new satellite service complements RCS’ cable network, which supplies a range of TV, Internet and telephony to almost 1,000,000 subscribers. A key requirement of the system design was to build an advanced digital video headend and delivery system that is able to feed the new satellite operation, as well as support the addition of digital cable services alongside RCS’ existing cable network.

TANDBERG Television carried out systems design and integration and was responsible for ensuring interoperability for third party equipment and systems from the video headend to the consumer set-top-box. The system uses a range of TANDBERG MPEG-2 products including E5710 encoders, TT1260 professional receivers, MX5640 multiplexers and SM6610 modulators. In addition, the entire RCS multichannel TV network is being managed using TANDBERG’s nCompass control system.
