SysMedia supports broadcasters at FIFA World Cup

Singapore-based info-communication company StarHub launched its interactive FIFA World Cup eTV service. This service was powered by SysMedia’s Plasma Gold interactive TV content aggregation and delivery system, and was made available to subscribers of StarHub Digital Cable’s digital set-top box.

Users of this service could access multi-camera views of the World Cup matches and a bundle of information and statistics. The system is fast, clear and easy for viewers to use. It also is almost totally automatic in operation. SysMedia also provided a complex live data application that processes and presents the information taken from a Press Association sports feed for the match being shown.

German national public broadcaster ARD provided extensive captioning for hearing-impaired viewers during its live coverage of the FIFA 2006 World Cup in Germany using SysMedia’s WinCAPS subtitling system. As well as live match coverage itself, it was extended to include interviews, pre- and post-match analysis, and background stories on ARD’s Das Erste channel.
