Sudanese Radio & Television opts for NETIA/NOA archiving system

At the Khartoum headquarters of Sudanese Radio & Television more than 20,000 historical open reel tapes will be preserved with a new NETA/NOA digital archiving system.

Sudanese Radio & Television (SRTC) has selected a customized digital audio archiving system from NETIA for archiving its current and historical audio media. NETIA partnered with another French company, NOA, to create the system to SRTC specifications. Based in Khartoum, SRTC operates several radio and television stations throughout Sudan.

The NETIA/NOA platform is designed to give SRTC flexible and efficient audio archiving, with redundant large-scale storage and secure asset management. The platform being delivered is dynamic, flexible and future-proof. The content is stored both online on hard disk and offline on DVD, giving SRTC maximum data security. The system will also embed metadata coming from its database systems.

The SRTC audio library spans several decades of material, both musical and spoken word.

In total, 20,000 open-reel tapes and thousands of CDs and MDs will be digitized in the archiving system, ensuring the safeguarding of the content. With such a large quantity of media to transfer, SRTC faces several years of archiving activities.
