Stratos Video Media Converters provide fiber connectivity at Oscars

Stratos Optical Technologies’ Video Media Converters were used during the Oscars pre-show feeds from HD RF cameras deployed on the red carpet.

At this year’s Academy Awards presentation, the Kodak Theater stage was framed by an array of LED and high-definition video displays, and Stratos Optical Technologies’ line of Video Media Converters provided the fiber-optic connectivity.

Bexel Fiber Optic Solutions, which provided broadcast equipment and technical expertise for the production, selected Stratos VMC-T-X-2 single-mode fiber-optic video media converters for the video and stage graphics production chain. HD converter modules were deployed for the high-definition LED stage marquee, Best Picture front projector screen, cinemascope rear projector and pre-show feeds from HD RF cameras deployed on the red carpet and feeds back to LED screens in the red carpet and Orchid Court areas.

Stratos VMCs also were used for HD/SD fiber feed connectivity from the main show to domestic and international television compounds about half a mile away from the Kodak Theater.

The VMC-T-X-2 is designed for use in multi-protocol video applications with data transfer rates up to 1.485Gb/s. It conforms to SMPTE 292M, 297M, 259M, 305M and 310M specifications. Throw-down and rack kits provide up to 18 channels of BNC-to-fiber conversion in a 1RU high by 19in wide unit.
