Powell, Gallagher meet to coordinate spectrum policy

FCC Chairman Michael Powell and Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information Michael Gallagher met Nov. 10 to coordinate the work of the FCC and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration on spectrum policy.

Teams of spectrum policy experts from both organizations met as required by law to continue their efforts in coordinating spectrum policy. Such efforts at coordination in the past have been responsible in part for band clearing and reallocation of spectrum to address the overlapping use and spectrum needs of government frequency users, local emergency first responders and TV broadcasters making the transition from analog to digital service.

According to a statement from Gallagher, the organizations worked to implement “policies that support advanced wireless services, next-generation networks, ultrawideband, and most recently, broadband over power lines.”
