QUALCOMM subsidiary MediaFLO USA has placed several new equipment orders with Thomson to support the rollout of its FLO TV mobile TV service across the U.S. The orders include Thomson’s Ultimate transmitters and NetProcessor multiplexers from Thomson’s Grass Valley unit.
The Thomson Ultimate transmitter features a digital exciter designed for the MediaFLO signal and power amplification in the 5kW range. The Grass Valley NetProcessor will be used to integrate all functions necessary for the optimized delivery to the transmitters, including channel multiplexing, scrambling and IP adaptation. It provides a comprehensive signal preparation solution, with the complete and final service streamed over IP.
Mobile TV service provider Modeo has also tapped the Grass Valley unit to support its mobile content delivery service across New York City. As part of a multiyear agreement, Grass Valley is supplying Modeo with a full complement of products and systems designed to facilitate, monitor and control the transmission and reception of mobile digital audio, video and other types of data. The agreement includes complete system redundancy and installation.
