Germany’s CBC moves to new facilities with Lawo

Following the German RTL Group’s move to a new facility under one roof at the historic Cologne Exhibition Centre, its CBC broadcast and production company has committed to installing two Lawo mc²90 mixing consoles and two Nova73 HD routing systems for use in two surround control rooms and the master control room. One control room will be used mainly for RTL news, with the other room handling sports program production while also being available to other CBC clients.

Both control rooms are linked to a Nova73 HD router that will handle all signals fed from the studios via Lawo DALLIS I/O systems. This intelligent networking system allows both mixing consoles to share sources from either studio, allowing flexible and efficient use of the control rooms. An access rights facility is used to control local access to all sources.

The two new mc²90 consoles are fitted with 24-8-24 faders and offer console surface redundancy by a redundant control PC. The HD core boasts 512 DSP channels and 144 summing buses. As with the HD cores, the Nova73 HD router features 8192 inputs and outputs. It provides access to all DALLIS I/O systems in the control rooms, studios and central equipment rooms.

Established in 1994, CBC is one of the leading broadcasting and production companies in Germany, with facilities in Cologne, Munich and Hanover. CBC’s post-production facilities comprise 60 edit suites, graphics stations and digital audio suites.
