France Télévisions picks P2 for France 2 news

France Télévisions, the French national public television broadcaster, has selected Panasonic's P2 technology for a major upgrade of its France 2 channel’s news department.

The selection follows a similar move by France Télévisions' RFO channel, whose main focus is news production for France's overseas territories.

The transition to a new recording media is a big step for any broadcaster, said Bruno Tézenas du Montcel, director of technologies for France 2. P2 fit the broadcaster’s needs, he added, because of its ease of use and its ability to let France 2 shoot in various formats and modes using the same camcorder. Additionally, transferring footage from the solid-state recording medium is fast, which allows editing to begin immediately.
