ATSC to hold one-day PSIP seminar

The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) will present a one-day seminar on PSIP, the Program and System Information Protocol, during the 10th Annual Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat in Palm Springs, CA. The seminar costs $195.

Extension of FCC Form 382 filing deadline for first-round DTV channel election
New Deadline: Jan. 27
Responding to a request from the Association for Maximum Service Television, the FCC has set a new deadline of Jan. 27, 2005, for submission of FCC Form 382 for first-round DTV channel election.

Effective date of new digital LPTV, TV translator, Class A TV rules
Effective deadline: Jan 28
New rules not requiring the approval of the Office of Management and Budget that govern the analog-to-digital transition of LPTV, TV translator and Class A TV stations will take effect Jan. 28.

Full implementation deadline for ATSC PSIP standard required by A/65
Deadline: Feb. 1
Established by the FCC in its Second DTV Periodic Review Report and Order, the deadline requires full implementation of the ATSC Program System and Information Protocol, PSIP, standard to the extent that ATSC A/65B requires.

ATSC Digital VSB Seminar
Date: March, 23, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., San Francisco
The San Francisco section of SMPTE and SBE Chapter 40 will present a one-day seminar on the ATSC's digital television VSB transmission system to be held at KQED-TV’s studio.

The SBE has set a May 31 deadline to submit nominations for its annual awards. The society is seeking nominations for several categories, including Broadcast Engineer of the Year, Educator of the Year and the Technology Award.
