Complaints to FCC over broadcast obscenity, indecency, profanity skyrocket

A report from the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau, a department within the FCC, shows a sharp spike in the number of complaints from the public regarding radio and television in the first quarter of this year.

The FCC department report reveals the number of complaints grew from 44,287 in the fourth quarter of 2005 to 275,257 in the first quarter of this year. Complaints regarding broadcast obscenity, indecency and profanity grew from 44,109 to 275,131.

Cable and Satellite Services complaints increased from 225 in the fourth quarter to 290 in first quarter.
