YouTube and Hearst-Argyle Television have reached a revenue-sharing deal that results in local TV stations being paid when users of the video-sharing site view their programming.
Google-owned YouTube has agreed to pay licensing fees for news, weather, and entertainment videos that come from Heart-Argyle any of the 29 local TV stations owned by the company.
The amount the broadcaster is receiving—taken from YouTube’s advertising revenue—remains undisclosed. Hearst-Argyle of New York reaches about 18 percent of TV households in the U.S. YouTube also recently announced a deal with EMI Group for video and music licensing.
Under the terms of that deal, YouTube users can watch authorized videos and also incorporate elements of those videos in content they generate themselves.
