Worldwide LCD TV sales boom

The market for LCD TVs worldwide will grow by 27.5 percent a year until 2010 when it will be worth $84 billion, according to tech researcher iSuppli.

LCD TV revenues will exceed those from CRT set sales by the end of this year, and unit sales will top CRT shipments by 2009, the market research analyst said.

But, the market is subject to “creeping commoditization,” with consumers seeing no unique value in different manufacturers’ offerings, according to iSuppli. Thirty-two-inch sets have already become commoditized, and 40in-42in sets will go that way in the next year, despite manufacturers’ best attempts to differentiate their products, it said.
