WNUV, WBFF install Ai Quantum transmitters

Acrodyne Industries (Ai), a manufacturer of television broadcast transmission equipment, announced the first installation of an Ai water-cooled Depressed Collector ESCIOT-equipped Quantum transmitter at WNUV, the Baltimore-area WB affiliate, for its analog and digital channels.

The transmitter system is designed around the depressed collector IOT tube for use in both analog and digital service and can be used in one or the other application in the same basic cabinet

A 60kW Quantum digital depressed collector transmitter was also installed at WBFF, the Baltimore Fox affiliate.

This unique installation is the industry’s first installed depressed collector IOT analog transmitter and represents the most powerful depressed collector installation in the industry at a power rating of 240kW. The transmitter is the only IOT-based unit on the market that offers the water-cooled e2v ESCIOT tube in a dual use analog/digital cabinet. The transmitter system was designed around the depressed collector IOT tube for use in both analog and digital service and can be used in one or the other application in the same basic cabinet.

According to Ai president and chairman of the board Nat Ostroff, “Our analysis is that whatever energy savings you achieve in digital service, in terms of percentage, you get the same energy savings in analog.

“Therefore this demonstrates the depressed collector Quantum transmitter is a system that can and should be used for either analog or digital applications. WNUV-TV is expected to realize a total energy savings of a quarter-million dollars annually as a result of the installation of this equipment.”
