WDAY-TV will capture footage from the GY-HD100U (pictured) with the FS-4 recorder as their main acquisition format.
ABC affiliate WDAY-TV in Fargo, ND, has purchased 18 JVC GY-HD100U Pro HD cameras and 15 BR-HD50U VTRs.
The station had been using M-II format equipment for its ENG and will now make the move to tapeless acquisition with Focus Enhancements' FS-4 hard drive recorder.
Jeff Nelson, news director, WDAY-TV, said they will use the equipment in the SD mode for now and slowly migrate to HD production in the near future. The JVC GY-HD100U allows them to do that, since it can record in SD or HD.
WDAY-TV will capture footage from the GY-HD100U with the FS-4 recorder as their main acquisition format. They'll then transfer the footage directly from the hard drive into their Final Cut Pro editing systems. As a back up, the station also records onto tape and can access the taped footage using JVC's BR-HD50U recorder/player to transfer the video and audio into its editing system.
To get everyone up to speed, JVC conducted a three-day training session on site at WDAY-TV that was attended by 20 videographers, reporters and engineers.
