COLUMBUS, OHIO and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF.: WBNS-TV, the CBS affiliate in the nation’s 34th largest television market, launched its own iPhone application this week. The Dispatch-owned station said iPhone subscribers can down load the free 10TV app on iTunes and access 10TV News and the station’s Web site for real-time traffic and weather updates. A separate 10TVToGo stream is available for non-iPhone wireless devices.
WBNS joins LIN TV in transmitting station content to mobile devices. LIN in August launched News Over Wireless for a custom BlackBerry smartphone app at each of its 27 local TV stations. The same service was already in development for iPhones.
ABC News came out with an iPhone app in January for the network’s owned-and-operated stations.
In a separate announcement this week, iPhone launched the app of online streaming specialist Ustream, enabling users to transmit live video reports the Ustream Web site. The content can be simultaneously Tweeted and shared on Facebook and YouTube, with a chat feature built in. The free app enables live streaming on 3G or WiFi.
