USDTV is now offering over-the-air digital television subscription services in Salt Lake City and plans to soon expand the service to Las Vegas and Albuquerque, N.M. The system uses unutilized UHF spectrum and carries 12 popular cable channels, bundling these with off-the-air reception of local DTV transmissions. The service costs $20 per month.
The USDTV service has its own proprietary set-top box that connects to a standard TV antenna. The company partners with local and national broadcasters to carry the channels, which include Fox News, Starz, ESPN, Disney, HGTV and others, as well as the local DTV broadcasters. The service will share fees with broadcasters for carrying the USDTV signal, which represents a new revenue stream for broadcasters from their DTV transmissions.
