U.K.: UPC Ireland intros HD
By TVTechnology published
UPC Ireland says it has launched a proprietary nine-channel "HD bouquet" on its Chorus NTL-branded cable network. The new HD entries for Irish viewers with compatible HD set-top boxes include six American networks:
BBC HD
Discovery HD
History HD
National Geographic HD
National Geographic Wild HD
Crime & Investigation HD
Eurosport HD
Disney Cinemagic HD
Biography HD
The entire new HD line-up can be purchased for about $10.50 monthly (although fees vary because UPC Ireland offers a sort of "a la carte" choice on some of its packages). Subs already renting DVRs (made by Cisco) will also be able to record HD content without a software upgrade, according to the Irish Times.
Cabler UPC Ireland said about a half-million of its sub homes are now future-proofed to receive Chorus NTL HD services, while more than 70 percent of its HD subs also opt for DVR HD/SD capabilities.
UPC Ireland said Chorus NTL will add VOD services (HD/SD) sometime in 2010.
