Triveni Digital to Demo EAS Datacast System at NAB

Triveni Digital is teaming up with i-Notification.net to demo a homeland security broadcasting application at NAB that enables terrestrial DTV stations to deliver Emergency Alert System (EAS) notifications using datacasting through a digital signal. The system will be deployed at Louisiana Public Broadcasting.

i-Notifcation.net, which offers products for distributing information in times of emergency, combined its notification network with Triveni Digital's SkyScraper datacasting system for the base of its service. Using a broadband wireless delivery system, terrestrial broadcast signals can be picked up from a PC with a DTV tuner card.

With the new system, rich media, including related medical symptoms, details and diagnosis procedures, escape routes and locations of shelters, can be distributed along with the alert. "During emergency situations, public communications networks tend to fail as seen in 9/11," said Jason Hewitt, CEO of i-Notification.net. "We were searching for a solution that would provide ... [a] communications network unaffected by phone failures or network congestion."
