TiVo Reaches 1 Million Subscription Milestone

PVR pioneer TiVo has surpassed the one million-subscription mark five years after its market introduction and expects the upcoming best holiday season to be the best in the company's history.

Michael Ramsay, CEO of TiVo, attributes the high numbers to increased growth in standalone subscriptions and DirecTV's TiVo promotions. TiVo was originally offered to consumers in a set-top box, but is currently available in equipment manufactured by several consumer electronics companies. Toshiba and Pioneer paired TiVo with DVD, and DirecTV offers four integrated tuners with TiVo. The company will also make available an upgrade to the Home Media Option that enables the scheduling of recordings on the Internet or viewing photos on television.
