Three upstate New York channels move to file-based news workflow

WXXA-TV in Albany, NY, is the first of three Clear Channel TV stations in upstate New York to begin using the BitCentral Précis 3.0 News Production System as the centerpiece of a conversion to a file-based news production workflow.

Early this fall, WSYR-TV in Syracuse and WHAM-TV in Rochester are scheduled to join the Albany station in the transition to a file-based news workflow. WXXA went live with Précis in August, following the adoption of the system earlier this year at Clear Channel-owned KMTR-TV in Eugene, OR.

With Précis 3.0, the broadcasters can upgrade to a file-based news workflow from ingest to air. The system provides tools to deliver news in either SD or HD formats. The technology improves operational efficiency and streamlines production workflow. Initially, the three Clear Channel stations will go live with an SD version of Précis, but the technology includes an upgrade path to HD.

According to WXXA general manager Jeffery Whitson, several Précis features, such as its open architecture, quick learning curve and the ability to integrate national, regional and local stories, as well as content from other Précis-equipped Clear Channel TV stations, will help the station as it adds a new three-hour news block on weekday mornings.
