Thomson Closes Deal to Acquire Grass Valley Group

Thomson multimedia has enhanced its digital media holdings by formally acquiring the Grass Valley Group. Originally announced in December 2001, Thomson recently received regulatory clearance from the United States and Europe for the $172 million deal.

Acquiring GVG's products and services for Thomson's Broadcast Solutions business makes the company one of the largest providers of digital content creation, production and distribution systems in the world. Thomson also provides resources for using broadband in broadcast, IT and Internet technology fields. The company plans to use GVG assets to offer an end-to-end product portfolio to customers in cinema, broadcast and broadband markets.
