TANDBERG Television has unveiled the nCompass 3.0, a new network-monitoring system. The nCompass 3.0 system monitors the health of MPEG services both at the individual server level and also across an entire video network, ensuring that all broadcast events take place as scheduled.

The system, which will debut at NAB2004, is designed to improve markedly on traditional MPEG syntax checking through inspection of actual service provision at probe points and comparison with the required transmission structure. In contrast to others, this system is not reliant on the health checking capability of the units themselves, i.e. by comparing scheduled events with actual MPEG services.

The system allows the monitoring of multi-vendor equipment sites through SNMP technology and provides continuous monitoring of DVB and ATSC video transport streams.

The nCompass is an integrated cross-platform system that features both control and monitoring and enables broadcasters and operators to more effectively manage content delivery networks. Its user interface uses StarTree interface technology, enabling even the largest and most complex networks to be intuitively monitored from a single workstation.
