Switchcraft turns 60

If Switchcraft were a person, it would be five years from collecting social security. The company celebrates 60 years of operation this year. Started in 1946 by three WWII veterans, Switchcraft began developing electronics components. This is the company that developed the guitar plug — the 280 plug that is still in production today.

Switchcraft offers interconnect solutions for the audio, medical, broadcast, process control, harsh environment and transportation industries. Products include a wide variety of connectors, jacks and plugs, molded cable assemblies, jackpanels and patchbays and switches. To further compete in the harsh environment industry, Switchcraft acquired Conxall in 1999. Conxall provides both standard and custom solutions for environmentally sealed connector and cable interconnects. These connectors are used in the process control, GPS and instrumentation industries.

Switchcraft has made a commitment to vertically integrating its 250,000sq-ft facility in Chicago. Core sub-components are stamped and formed, molded, plated and assembled using the latest techniques in automated assembly.
