Standard Comm expands encoder line

Standard Communications has added two new encoders to the L1000 line of MPEG-2 professional encoders.

The L1000 line of encoders is one of the first encoder/modulator's to break away from using dedicated MPEG-2 chipsets.

Standard Communications has added two new encoders to the L1000 line of MPEG-2 professional encoders.

The L1009 is a MPEG-2 encoder with composite video input, stereo sound and two ASI outputs. EBS conditional access is included at no additional cost. The entire L1000 family is housed in a half-width 1RU chassis weighing less than 3 pounds, and a full-width 1RU chassis or DC power supply versions are available for the same price. The entire unit dissipates less than 20 watts of power.

The L1008 has all the features of the L1009 plus an internal DVB-S QPSK modulator. Its small size and low power requirement make it ideal for outside broadcast, sports and DSNG applications.

A full range of upgrades is available for both units. These include 4:2:2 encoding, low processing delay, SDI input, 2nd audio pair, and QPSK, 8PSK, 16QAM, and COFDM modulation.

The L1009 professional MPEG-2 encoder cost $15,295. The L1008 is a full DSNG encoder/modulator at under $17,595. Standard Communications has also reduced the prices for its top range models by up to 25 percent.
