St. Louis Station Claims Local HD First

KMOV-TV, the CBS affiliate in St. Louis says it will broadcast the first ever locally produced “all-HD” program to air on a commercial station this weekend.

The broadcast of “5-Star: St. Louis’ Top Restaurants in HD” is scheduled to air at 11:30 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Oct. 25. The 30-minute program, produced by St. Louis-based Illustrated Man, focuses on culinary excellence in the St. Louis area, highlighting top chefs, patrons, restaurant owners and managers, and food critics.

KMOV says the program strictly contains only content that originated as a high-definition source, edited and broadcast in HD, including editorial segments, commercials, animated opens and closes. Local news is currently broadcast in HD on two stations in St. Louis--KMOV and KSDK, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate.

The show was shot on a Sony XDCAM-HD EX camera, edited on an uncompressed Media 100 HD editing system and will be broadcast from XDCAM-HD disc.

“I am very excited to help usher in the era of HD television to St. Louis,” said Mason. “Illustrated Man has a long history of technological firsts, including the first local broadcast of a digitally edited TV show, and we’re thrilled to add this important achievement to the list.”
