Sound Devices introduces enhanced digital audio recorders

At NAB2007 booth #N3914, Sound Devices will preview new software features for its 7-Series family of file-based audio recorders.

The two and four track recorders are widely used for recording sound for feature films, episodic television, documentary and news programming. They store sound files to flash media or internal hard drives.

Upgrades in the new firmware include lossless audio compression, MP3 recording and multi-unit linking enhancements. A major new feature enables the recording of data-compressed files using an on-board FLAC encoder. A PC software tool is used for decompression. FLAC greatly enhances Compact Flash cards as an effective audio interchange medium.

FLAC is an open source encoding algorithm used to data-compress sound files. No audio information is lost when compressing files more than 50 percent.
