Sony Rolls Out Powerful Blu-ray Laptop

Sony has unveiled a new Vaio-brand notebook computer in its AW Series line, complete with a Blu-ray Disc drive. Sony says it has enough memory, software and other attributes to edit HD video similar to a high-end desktop model.

The 8-pound-plus unit is equipped with an 18.4-inch-wide LCD display in 16:9, and although the Blu-ray drive is standard equipment, the notebook can be further accessorized with Sony's optional HD-centric brightness technology (marketed as XBrite-FullHD), designed to improve LCD colorization and detail for 1080p video. Another option includes the ability to record, store and play back personal content in 1080p.

The premium version of the new model will carry MRSP of about $2,000.
