Sony offers new digital wireless mic system

Designed to operate with the full range of Sony XDCAM camcorders, the company’s new Digital Wireless System offers significant sound gathering advantages for news, sports and reality TV producers.

The full system includes the DWT-B01 bodypack transmitter and DWR-S01D digital wireless receiver. It also features the DWA-01D wireless tuner adaptor for use with the company’s HDCAM, XDCAM, Digital Betacam and MPEG IMX professional camcorders.

Using a new Sony codec chip, the DWT-B01 and DWR-S01D units deliver 24-bit/48kHz digital wireless audio transmission quality along with low latency, secure and reliable operation. The system delivers a wide dynamic range of more than 106dB, a wide frequency response of 20Hz to 22kHz, and exceptional transient response.

It incorporates a newly developed digital modulator that provides intermodulation-free, equally spaced channel allocation for large-scale multichannel operations. In addition, the system-agile technology provides up to 50 percent more simultaneous wireless channels. For example, up to 12 channels of simultaneous operation is possible on a single UHF TV channel (6MHz bandwidth).

A digital modulator permits highly stable wireless transmission that is extremely tolerant to interference. In addition, digitally modulated and encrypted data helps to provide highly secure transmission and minimize the risk of interception.
