SMPTE 2009 Annual Conference showed attendance gains

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) reported attendance up 7 percent over the 2008 event at the 2009 Annual Tech Conference and Expo held Oct. 27-29. This underscored the alignment and timeliness of the event’s general and technical session content with broadcasters,’ filmmakers’ and new media ventures’ pursuit of more immersive entertainment approaches and new creative and revenue-generating opportunities, according to the organization.

This year’s event featured a strong lineup of expert speakers, and the focus included file-based production and service-oriented architecture (SOA) alongside topics like 3-D production. The conference also featured a special seminar on advanced media workflows and MXF, produced by the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA).
