Sinclair Uses Telestream to Distribute Media

Sinclair Broadcast has added the Telestream fleet of digital distribution products to NewsCentral, its newly centralized operations to export news to local TV stations around the country. Telestream's FlipFactory and ClipMail products will automate news distribution from the Hunt Valley, MD-based NewsCentral l facility, which launched in Oct.

Over the next six months, Sinclair will outfit stations in all of its 40 markets with Telestream ClipMail Pros. The device also lets local news operations send content back to NewsCentral in near-real time fashion for sharing with other Sinclair stations.

FlipFactory TrafficManager distributes non-real time video content, coordinates sending and receiving from all stations, tracks and manages content as well as automated transcoding and digital delivery to Sinclair's Pinnacle and Leitch servers.

Sinclair says the appeal of Telestream is that they can now move media to its regional news departments over its existing WAN without incurring additional bandwith costs, so "all of our non-real time content is now carried over our network to the local stations, which significantly reduces costly satellite time," says Del Parks, Sinclair's VP of operations and engineering.
