Sinclair Standardizes on Snell & Wilcox Kahuna Switcher

The Sinclair Broadcast Group is standardizing on Snell & Wilcox’s Kahuna production switcher for use in its news producing stations. The Kahuna will play an important role in those stations’ move to hi-def news, according to Sinclair executives.

“The Kahuna has an excellent performance record in many existing news production installations, and in terms of value, we feel it brings a lot to the table,” said Del Parks, Sinclair’s vice president of engineering and operations. “The combination of flexible SD/HD format handling and powerful effects capabilities makes the Kahuna a good fit for our stations’ transition to HD news production.”

The first switchers will be installed in stations in Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia.

Sinclair operates 58 U.S. television stations.
