Siemens selects Cinegy Workflow Suite for the BBC

Siemens IT Solutions and Services has selected Cinegy’s Workflow Suite as an essential technology component of the BBC’s Digital Media Initiative (DMI). Cinegy has a long-running global partnership with Siemens and will be expanding this to make the technologies and know-how involved in delivering DMI available to other broadcasters who are considering tackling a similar technical challenge.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services, as the BBC’s technology partner, has been working with the network to architect the solution for the DMI and select the key technology vendors. Siemens will now act as the prime integrator on the project, leading the service-oriented integration of these components to deliver a solution that meets the needs of the BBC.

Principally involved in the work-in-progress part of the project, Cinegy’s digital workflow solution will help realize the implementation of tapeless and multiplatform production areas, linking these local repositories to a central archive and storage.

Cinegy Ingest and Media Archive allow content to be captured and stored in local digital libraries to act as a central service for data transfer and media sharing. Internal and external Web access to productions can be provided by Cineweb, Cinegy’s Web application server. Cinegy’s software encoder, Cinecoder, enables ingest in real time or faster for file-based ingest. Video production, logging and storyboarding can be performed with Cinegy Workflow, while Media Desktop is a full-featured NLE that supports editing in multiple qualities, from low resolution up to full HD.
