SES Americom Uses Siemens' Middleware to Manage HD Distribution

Boca Raton, Fla.-based Siemens Communications Inc. has integrated its IPTV middleware powered by Myrio with SES Americom's IP-Prime content distribution portfolio. The combined technologies will provide broadband operators with a system for bringing IPTV programming and services to homes.

Satellite service provider SES Americom's IP-Prime provides rural and independent telephone operators with hundreds of SD and HD IPTV channels.

"With Siemens IPTV middleware in place, IP-Prime helps provide a true end-to-end distribution solution that allows hundreds of telephone and communications companies to cost effectively deploy IPTV offerings for consumers," said Alan Young, chief technology officer at SES Americom.

The National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative has deployed the fully managed SES Americom IPTV solution to conduct field trials with selected members. NRTC represents more than 900 rural and independent telephone companies serving more than 10 million homes.

IP-Prime is scheduled for commercial launch in the United States later this year. IP-Prime IPTV Broadcast Distribution Center is located in Vernon Valley, N.J.
