Absent the extension of SHVIA, DirecTV and EchoStar would be prohibited from further network distribution after Dec. 31, 2004. Such a move would eliminate network signals to millions of DBS viewers.
No hearings have been set on the issue. Television station owners are expected to support a ban on importation of network signals in any market where DBS carriers retransmit local-TV signals.
