PanAmSat was granted authorization to launch and operate PAS-4R, a replacement satellite, on C and Ku bands at 169 degrees East Longitude (EL). EchoStar was authorized to launch and operate a Ka-band satellite at 97 degrees West Longitude (WL) for direct to home and fixed satellite services. SES Americom filed a request for an extension of its Special Temporary Authority (STA) to continue operating the AMC-9 satellite at 85 degrees WL through September 9, 2004 and to continue offering direct-to-home service through AMC-9. See FCC Policy Branch Information Report SAT-00199.
