Satellite Radio Operators Request Authority For Up To 5,000 Signal Boosters

In a Public Notice dated April 29, 2003, the FCC listed two applications for terrestrial signal boosters for satellite radio systems, XM Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio as acceptable for filing.

XM Radio requested Special Temporary Authority (STA) to operate up to 5,000 signal boosters in its licensed frequency band from 2320 to 2332.5 MHz at an effective isotropically radiated power (EIRP) of 100 microwatts. Sirius Satellite Radio requested the same number of boosters operating at the same power in its licensed frequency band (2332.5 to 2345 MHz).

The requests for STA state the signal boosters will be installed at "retail outlets throughout the United States in order to provide a clear signal for reception by Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service receivers located inside of retail stores and installation bays."
