Reno station broadcasts local HD news with Ross switcher

KRNV-DT, the NBC affiliate in Reno, NV, has purchased a Synergy 4 MD-X multidefinition production switcher and OverDrive production control system from Ross Video to help broadcast its local news, network and special programming in the 1080i HD format. KRNV is currently the only station in the Reno market to broadcast news in HD.

The station now has the capability to control the switcher via automation as well as various external supporting functions, such as the audio mixer and external server playlists during its live newscasts.

OverDrive is a scalable production control system with a real-time MOS interface (called LiveLink) to the newsroom computer system. The device control capabilities of the Synergy 4 MD-X digital production switcher combined with OverDrive gives users the ability to execute a more consistent, efficient and sophisticated news production.

The Synergy switcher combines a four effects bank control panel with the MD-X live production engine, which provides 4 M/E channels with up to fourdownstream keyers. Each M/E is equipped with four channels of Squeeze & Tease 3-D DVEs, two standard UltraChrome chroma keyers and four channels of MLE-Store with MediaCache moving image playback. The Synergy 4 MD-X is used in the most advanced newscasts and supports HD, SD or any combination of the two formats.
