Quantel introduces Genetic Engineering for post, DI

Quantel unveiled at NAB2007 Genetic Engineering, an open technology that allows facilities to maximize the efficiency of collaborative teamwork for post and DI.

Genetic Engineering gives all new and existing eQ, iQ and Pablo systems access to the same media and allows each to work completely independently. Unlike a traditional SAN-based approach, Genetic Engineering lets multiple users access the same clips at the same time without copying or moving media. Genetic Engineering also allows all resolutions for playout in real time without creating any new media.

Genetic Engineering is made up of three components: Sam, Max and the GenePool.

  • GenePool, available in either HD RGB or 4K configurations, can host guaranteed multiple streams. It offers a RAID-protected workspace up to 80TB and the company's resolution co-existence technology.
  • The Sam data server, available in HD RGB and 4K versions, provides open network access to managed media via cross-platform CIFS (Common Internet Filing System) protocol.
  • The Max assist station takes control of backroom tasks such as conforms, playouts and QC.
