3ality Digital, the stereoscopic production company responsible for “U2 3D,” and Quantel, which has pioneered stereoscopic post work based on its Pablo and iQ systems, have signed a strategic partnership to advance stereoscopic 3-D production and post production industrywide.
While details of the deal will be announced in September during IBC2008, one of the goals of the collaboration is technology development aimed at furthering the reach of 3-D stereoscopic entertainment beyond the theater. According to Sandy Climan, president and CEO of 3ality Digital, the alliance will “hasten the introduction of full digital 3-D television broadcast to the home.”
At IBC2008, 3ality Digital will play a critical role in a live 3-D demonstration. The company will shoot a 3-D stereoscopic interview with DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg in Los Angeles that will be transmitted live via satellite for viewing at the RAI in Amsterdam.
