Plasmas, HDTVs near top of consumer electronics holiday list, says survey

A new survey of U.S. consumers’ shopping plans for the holiday season shows that plasmas and HDTVs rank near the top of the list of electronic gifts this year.

The survey, “Shopping in America Holiday 2005,” conducted for The Macerich Company by August Partners, found that 14 percent of respondents chose plasmas and and HDTVs as the most popular selection in the electronics category.

The items ranked third in the list of electronic gifts behind the Apple iPod Nano with 35 percent and the Xbox 360 with 21 percent.

The survey showed no difference in popularity among men and women. Fourteen percent of both sexes chose plasma TVs and HDTVs as their top picks, compared to 27 percent of men and 39 percent of women who selected the iPod Nano.
