Plasma TVs rank as most desirable CE holiday gift, says CEA survey

Consumers will spend three percent more on holiday shopping this year, and HDTV sets rank as one of the areas expected to see flourishing sales, according to a new study from the Consumer Electronics Association.

The association’s 11th Annual Holiday Sales and Forecast survey released last week shows that the number one most desired gift item this season is a plasma TV. Nine percent of consumer electronics buyers plan to purchase a plasma TV as a gift.

In terms of desirability, digital cameras, notebook or laptop computers, a color TV 27-inches or larger and portable MP3 players, according to the survey, followed plasma TVs.

Seventy-six percent of U.S. consumers plan to buy at least one consumer electronics product as a gift during the upcoming holiday season, the survey found.

While plasma TVs top the list of desirable gifts, digital cameras top the list of electronics gifts consumers plan to buy.
