PBS ‘Assignment Earth’ posted with AJA KONA 3 and Final Cut Pro

AJA Video’s KONA 3 video capture and playback card was used to enable real-time editing for “Assignment Earth,” a new half-hour series for PBS. KONA 3 is AJA’s capture card for SD, HD and 2K for Apple Mac Pro systems. It was an integral part of the Final Cut Pro workflow for the series, which will air on PBS stations later this year.

Walter Biscardi, owner of Biscardi Creative Media in Atlanta, GA, developed a Final Cut Pro editing and post workflow for “Assignment Earth” that allowed him to work quickly and easily with the large variety of acquisition formats. He said the KONA card’s ability to do crossconversions was crucial to integrating the different formats. Biscardi also used the AJA Control Panel application included in the KONA 3 card.

KONA 3 features the ability to capture and playback uncompressed 8-bit and 10-bit digital video and 24-bit digital audio. It also includes a variety of 10-bit broadcast-quality features, such as hardware-based up-, down-, and crossconversion to and from HD, and adds a live hardware HD/SD keyer for compositing bugs, live clips, and other elements over video.
